POINT PLEASANT, PA
Here is a great spot for a weekend getaway.--where the Tohickon Creek flows into the Delaware River. This is our destination of Point Pleasant, Pennsylvania. Near Philadelphia, in Bucks County, there were once argillite mines here. The Native Americans worked to quarry the argillite so that it could be used for knife blades as well as arrowheads. The Lenapi Indians used to fish here, and later came the canal men and rafters who moved up and down the canal and the Delaware River, transporting goods. Point Pleasant was a stagecoach stop, as well as the site of the grist mill, built in 1748, which served the needs of the Revolutionary soldiers. There are some great things to see here in Point Pleasant. Don’t miss Poor Richard’s, a great old store with its own unique style. Near the horseshoe bends in the creek are some grand cliffs, just made for rock climbing. Whether strolling or whitewater canoeing, Point Pleasant is a scenic spot you’ll want to return to again and again. Since you plan to return, why not book your next reservation at one of the local bed and breakfast inns? The luxurious feel of the soft beds and the warmth of a hearty morning meal—rather than the usual hotel accommodations, enjoy the authentic, historical small town experience. |
